Photography Assignment
Good Morning Art class -
Yesterday we started thinking about our compositions for photography and started by looking at the art element of Line. Some of you have started to email your line photographs to me and I am very impressed so far! I will begin showing your photographs here as you send them in.
Today we will officially start the first assignment and you should start taking photos if you haven’t already. Keeping it simple to start, please review the examples on the Line in Photography page. Begin taking photos of any interesting lines you see in your world. Take as many photos as you would like, and then choose your top 3-5 photographs of line and email them to me by tomorrow Wednesday 2/25 at 3 pm.
We will start out with the element of Line and then begin adding more art elements in our photographs. As you look at Lines in your world, start to look at how repetition of lines create a pattern. Lines begin to create shapes, snd when shapes repeat in the composition they create a pattern. Our next assignment will be photographing shapes that create patterns.
After you send me your favorite 3-5 Line photographs, start to photograph shapes that create a pattern by repetition. There are two types of shapes: geometric and organic. Look for patterns of both types of shapes. Bellow are examples and definitions of these two types of shapes. There are also examples of these two types of shapes repeating to create patterns.
The next assignment will be to send me your favorite 3-5 photographs of both geometric and organic shapes and patterns created by the repetition of these shapes. You may begin taking and emailing these photos if you are ready, but they won’t officially be due until next week. Some of you are ready to move forward already so I will continue to add art elements and you can work at a faster pace. I don’t want to overwhelm you at first, but I also don’t want you to get bored waiting for the next assignment.
You can find a variety of shapes from man-made objects (geometric) or from nature (organic). A pattern created by geometric or man-made shapes with have regular or straight lines, while patterns created in nature or with organic free-form shapes will create uneven or irregular patterns. Please review the examples below, and I will “see” you tomorrow Wednesday 3/25. I look forward to seeing your Line photographs!
