Using SPACE in photography involves understanding the difference between Positive and Negative space.
In a photo, the main subject is the positive space, while the space between and around the subject is the negative space. For this assignment, you will take photos that highlight the negative space in the composition. See below for examples of using interesting negative Space as an Art Element in your photographs. When you understand how to "see" the negative space, take as many photos as you can focusing on the interesting negative space to create the photograph. For example, in the photo on the left the pink flowers and stem are the positive space, while the negative space is the area around and in between the flowers and stem. Look for the negative space in the photos below and find interesting negative spaces in your world to photograph. Please note: The last photo below is the negative space Hand/Heart photo that is not very creative these days (everyone does it). Although it is technically an example of a Negative space photo, please limit yourself to only ONE of this type of photo. Try using other objects to create a negative space. Thank you!
